Copy Combine Transform is a blog about creativity.  We discuss issues facing artists and innovators in a context of powerful technological tools, fast-paced change, and commodification.

  • Why do we create?
  • What tools do we use to create?
  • How do we share our creations with the world?
  • How do we assign value to our creations?
  • How do we ensure artists and innovators are compensated for their contributions to culture?

Copy Combine Transform derives its name from Kirby Ferguson’s incredible project Everything is a Remix.  In his four part series Mr. Ferguson dispels the myth of the solitary creator who pulls inspiration from thin air and creates something completely unique.  Creativity is based on copying, combining, and transforming ideas and practices that our predecessors and contemporaries have bestowed on the world.  This dynamic feedback loop of creation makes answering the above questions quite complicated.  Copy Combine Transform humbly attempts to contribute to the ongoing discussion at the intersection of media, technology, culture, and law.
